Grill vs. Pan: The Ultimate Guide to Choosing the Best Way to Cook Your Steaks
Oct 03, 2024Today, we’re tackling a common question: grill or pan—which is the best way to cook your steak? The answer is simple: it depends on what you feel like, and here’s how I approach it.
If you live in an apartment and don’t have access to a grill, then obviously the pan is your go-to. But if you’ve got options, I think it’s all about going with the flow…
Do what feels right in the moment!
For me, sometimes I’ve had too many grilled steaks and start missing the flavors of a good pan-seared steak, so I switch it up. I also like to check in with my family and see what they’re craving.
When I’m hosting a bigger party, I typically use the grill. It’s faster and easier to handle a lot of steaks at once. But if it’s just two or three of us, I might go with the pan. Then again, there are days when I’ll fire up the grill even if I’m alone, just because I’m in the mood for that grilling experience. It’s all about enjoying the process.
Now, getting into specifics:
- If I’ve got a thick tenderloin, I like to use the brown butter method in the pan.
- If I have a dry-aged ribeye, I prefer grilling it to enhance that deep, complex flavor.
- For non-dry-aged steaks, I tend to grill them because they benefit from the added flavor boost that comes from the charcoal and grill.
At the end of the day, it’s about what feels right for you at that moment. Whether you’re using a pan or a grill, the most important thing is that you’re enjoying the experience to the fullest.
